Amber Morning Star

Amber Morning Star Byars, a proud member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, is a multidisciplinary artist, lawyer, producer, impact producer, and Indigenous rights advocate. She graduated in 2018 from the Institute of American Indian Arts and from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law in 2022 with two certificates in business law, equipping her with a strong foundation to navigate the intersections of Indigenous creativity, commerce, and justice. Her career is deeply driven by a lifelong commitment to truth-telling, equity, and amplifying voices historically silenced. 

In 2023, Amber founded Good Trade Productions, a production company dedicated to the art of Indigenous storytelling and to ensuring those stories are told with authenticity, integrity, and impact. She has contributed to the impact campaigns of acclaimed films including the two-time Emmy-winning documentary Lakota Nation vs. United States and the Academy Award–nominated Sugarcane. Her ability to merge cultural insight with strategic production has led her to serve as a cultural advisor for industry leading corporations and organizations including AMC Networks, guiding content toward responsible and resonant representation. 

Amber’s career has included collaborations with some of the most respected names in documentary filmmaking, including National Geographic, IFC Films, and XTR. Named one of DOC NYC’s New Leaders for 2024/2025, Amber continues to challenge systems, inspire change, and create space for perspectives that honor Indigenous sovereignty and truth. Her work reflects not only her artistry and legal expertise, but also her unwavering belief in justice as both a principle and a practice.

Amber currently resides in her hometown of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
